The four corners area is rich with Native American history. The ruins of ancient civilizations gives us a view into an ancient way of life. We visited the Aztec Ruins National Monument in New Mexico and were able to experience this profound glimpse for ourselves.
The tour starts out with a video explaining some of the background behind the ruins, and a small museum that houses ancient artifacts. Unfortunately, a lot of precious artifacts have beens lost to centuries of looters.
The monument itself has detailed remains of a stone living complex that an entire village called home.
Simple square rooms furnished housing and storage for each family. At one end there is a large circular pit that served as a gathering area for the community.
Small doorways connected many of the rooms.
At first glance this way of life seems foreign and impossible. But it does make you wonder what advantages of this tightknit community we are missing out on today.
