One of the things that Astoria is best known for is being the final destination of Lewis and Clark’s cross country expedition. Many of the museums and monuments in town pay homage to the historical figures, and, of course, there is a National Park in their name.
On the day we decided to go to the park the replica of Fort Clatsop, where Lewis and Clark camped in the winter of 1805, was closed. But we still enjoyed walking the trails, reading the information, and enjoying nature.
On one of the trails we came across these canoes designed to look like those Lewis and Clark would have used. Our boys enjoyed looking at them, but were pretty disappointed when they realized they were cement replicas, and we wouldn’t actually be taking them into the water.
